About Me

Design

This is an overview of my work in Advance Digital Video for Digital Media Design, at Texas State Technical College.

Planning

The assingment was to create a "Carrot Cutting" video, a short collection of clips which tell a story. I knew I wanted to cover an intresting local legend, the Goatman of Old Alton Bridge, but knew it was going to be a challenge in the limits of the assignment. I figured out a lot of the film as I worked on it.

Research

My personal search into the Goatman lead me into a Hoax about a lynching peddled by a professor at the University of North Texas most everyone who writes on this subject cites without any doubt. This extremely depressing truth about the complete confabulation of Oscar Washborn by a lecter of comic books almost made me quit till I saw an intresting angle to take.

As the Goatman was a hoax my own search could be reflected in film. A troubling story haunts yet the trail is cold, the leads scant rumors, and in the end the hunt ends in dead ends diving into every strange rabbit hole. The truth is there is no Goatman, there never was, he is a foragry of history used to push a story. Some sources will even admit this but refuse to question the narrative that needs a hoax to support it- but that's besides the point, I had my story and knew what I had to do next.

Filming

I shot my video at night in two batches, the first on the bridge and driving to a local university to use the libary, saving the second to shoot interiors and back up shots. I had several flash lights, my phone, and a tripod I used to record my shots. I filmed things 30 seconds at a time and got dozens of shots with many reduant clips to keep my options open later.

Editing

Editing followed shortly after, I cut down my longer shots into clips with Adobe Premiere.
